Licensing

Freeway is open source software licensed under the GPL license.

The basic idea behind open source is very simple: When programmers can read, redistribute and modify the source code for a piece of software, the software evolves. People improve it, people adapt it, people fix bugs. And this can happen at a speed that, if one is used to the slow pace of conventional software development, seems astonishing.

We in the open source community have learned that this rapid evolutionary process produces better software than the traditional closed model, in which only a very few programmers can see the source and everybody else must blindly use an opaque block of bits.

Trademark

Freeway is protected by trademark over its name and its logo. The Freeway name and logo may be used when redistributing unmodified versions of Freeway from www.openfreeway.org. For example for distribution of Freeway on software/magazine CDs and hosters offering Freeway as an e-commerce solution.

“Unmodified” means without any changes whatsoever, including addition of extensions not available as standard features.

Copyright

The Freeway name is allowed to be used when no changes are made, such as the user of incorrect case (FreeWay, freeWay, ..) or the user of incorrect spelling (Free-way ..). The correct case and spelling to use is Freeway.

The Freeway logo is allowed to be used if no changes have been made, such as additonal or removal of graphics or text, or changing the colours. The logo may be scaled proportionally and may use a transparent background.

Links to the Freeway Support Site

The Freeway support site must be linked or referenced to when using the Freeway name or logo. The address of the Freeway support site is www.openfreeway.org

Trademark protection

ZacWare strictly enforces our trademark rights in order to keep them valid. While you have considerable freedom to redistribute and modify our software, there are tight restrictions on your ability to use the Freeway name and logos, even when built into binary files we provide.

Trademarks and the GNU General Public License

The GNU General Public License (GPL) permits you to use and redistribute the Freeway software under certain conditions. This use and/or redistribution of Freeway software products is welcomed by ZacWare, but is separate from the use of the Freeway trademarks.

The GPL does not provide any license or right to use any ZacWare trademark in any form or media. So, although a GPL license allows you to redistribute the Freeway software, you may not use a Freeway trademark in any way that does not conform to the ZacWare trademark policy without the written permission of ZacWare.
